protected information

Why are class essays protected?

Some of the information on our reunion website contains information that we do not wish to make available to search engines and the entire world. Our essays, for instance, contain e-mail and phone information that we don't mind sharing with classmates, but don't wish to make public to those who might abuse such information by adding it to spam or scam lists.

Such information is protected via password access. The first time you click one of the links to a classmate's bio, you will see a screen such as the following:

password request

You need to type (or copy and paste) the correct "User Name" AND "Password" (but wait for the pop-up box to prompt you -- you can't type this info into the photo above!) Once this is accepted, you can browse back and forth to various essays -- your browser will remember this information until you quit. Many operating systems will prompt you to store this information so you never need to enter it again.

What is the "User Name" and "Password"? Where do I get this information?

Note that the "User Name" requested is NOT your name! These are two coded identifiers containing letters and numbers. The "Name/Password" information is available to you in several ways:
(1) You should receive a letter from Arkie Koehl and Tom Terry in December, 2005. This letter includes the "Name/Password" combination. We will reiterate the information in subsequent mailings, excluding postcard reminders. It will NOT be listed in the Andover Bulletin, since this information goes to too many people.
(2) You can request this information from the Andover Alumni Office. Send e-mail to Pat Gerety: pgerety@andover.edu, or phone her at 978-749-4303 during business hours. Once she verifies your membership in the class of 57, she will give you the information.

We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this system may cause -- the protection scheme is in all our best interests!
